How does this artwork represent healthy human aging? (Artwork Description)
Birthdays are one of the more obvious times to celebrate our time on this Earth and what we have been through. To me, healthy aging means finding reasons for joy every step along our way. Sometimes, it’s easier to celebrate those that we love around us than it is ourselves, but it’s equally important to honour ourselves for finding our way in this world despite all odds. For pushing the limits and making things better in the ways that we can because I am me and you are you and we are us. Friendships are a way that I keep in check with myself – a way for me to remember who I have been and what I want to become. My friends are the ones I look up to, respect, and am curious about. The ones with whom I can try new things and challenge existing ways while keeping a special sense of my real self intact. This is a photo of my best friend on her 28th birthday, blowing out candles on a cookie held by another best friend. We’ve known each other for 15 years and often tell each other how much we’ve changed and yet how we knew, from the start, that our friendship would be long-lasting. Finding and keeping close those people who really know you and want to keep knowing you through it all is my enduring goal for healthy aging.
