Fatima Yaseen
Fatima completed a Bachelor of Science with distinction and co-operative education at SFU with a joint major in molecular biology, biochemistry and chemistry. She has previously worked as a research assistant at the BC-Center for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. She is now a master’s student with Dr. Helene Cote and Dr. Melanie Murray at UBC’s Pathology and Laboratory Medicine program. Her research will focus on women living with HIV. She is interested to explore the aging of women living with HIV using mitochondrial DNA and mitochondrial dysfunction as biomarkers, as well as examining how these relate to hormone levels and chronic inflammation.
