Miriam Spering, PhD

Miriam Spering is Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Giessen, Germany in 2006 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral work at the Center for Neural Science at New York University before joining UBC in 2011. Research in her lab focuses on the interaction between human vision and movement. Her group uses eye movements as a model system for the integration of motor, cognitive, and sensory signals across the senses and across the lifespan in health and disease. For her research work and contributions to mentorship, in 2022, Miriam was awarded a Humboldt Fellowship for experienced researchers and the mentorship award of Women in Cognitive Science Canada.
