Thibault Mayor, PhD

Dr. Thibault Mayor is full Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia. He completed his PhD to study the regulation of the centrosome during cell division under the supervision of Dr. Erich Nigg at the at the Department of Molecular Biology of the University of Geneva, Switzerland and the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany. During his postdoc, he  developed methods to study the ubiquitin proteasome system using protein mass spectrometry analysis with Dr. Ray Deshaies at Caltech. After moving to Vancouver, he established his own research program to first characterize quality control pathways that target cytosolic misfolded proteins for degradation. For this work Dr. Mayor was awarded a CIHR New Investigator Award and a Michael Smith Foundation of Health Research Career Award. More recently, his lab carried out several studies to better understand protein aggregation and protein condensate formation in the cell. Notably, his team has characterized age-associated changes of protein homeostasis in mouse brain tissues.
