Dialogue on Aging Public Presentation: Dr. Zayna Khayat

The Dialogue on Aging Public Presentation Series is hosted by the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging and Providence Health Care. On May 31st, 2024, we have the pleasure of hosting a virtual session with Dr. Zayna Khayat from the Health Sector Strategy, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto! This Dialogue on Aging presentation is held in partnership with the West Coast Conference on Aging.

Title: “Old Age Is Made Up“: How Identity and Aging is Changing in Profound Ways

Summary: Dr. Khayat will describe the reckoning that has begun as we evolve from an ageist society. Dr. Khayat will help us understand how the identity of aging is changing and she will share ways to explore the complex thoughts and feelings associated with the process of aging. She will discuss new ways that older adults are navigating these changes while maintaining their sense of self as well as personal and intellectual growth.  The conversation will also address how older adults assess and reassess their understanding of everything from sexuality to relationships, family, work, leaving a legacy, the world around them, and death.

Speaker Biography: Dr. Zayna Khayat is the in-house futurist with Deloitte Canada’s Healthcare and Life Sciences practice. She is also adjunct faculty in the Health Sector Strategy stream at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and co-author of a new book called The Future of Aging. Dr. Khayat believes in making health care better for everyone. She focuses on reimaging the way we work by looking critically at the paradigms we work within and the systems of care that are created from unchallenged assumptions. She is passionate about recreating health care systems and services that are more equitable and that truly meet the needs of the people who are using them.
