Avril Metcalfe-Roach

After receiving an Honours BSc in biochemistry from the University of Waterloo, Avril joined the Finlay lab as a PhD student in 2019. He is primarily interested in how the gut microbiome changes in people with Parkinson’s disease, and specializes in exploring how these changes might impact disease progression by performing computational analyses of clinical study data. Avril has previously highlighted the MIND diet as a potential method of delaying Parkinson’s disease onset, and is currently working to determine how the MIND diet and the microbiome interact within a disease context.
